Renishaw to expand operations, relocate to Norton Shores

NORTON SHORES — Renishaw Metrology Fixturing Solutions LLC of Grand Haven plans to expand in a move north into a new 52,000-square-foot facility in Norton Shores.

The company, a division of U.K.-based Renishaw plc, is working with Grand Haven-based Westwind Construction & Development Inc. on the Norton Shores manufacturing and engineering facility, which is scheduled this month for a groundbreaking at 5500 Grand Haven Road and should open in early 2020, according to a statement.

“This is a major investment in Western Michigan and the only Renishaw R&D and manufacturing facility in the U.S.,” Drew Baker, general manager for Renishaw Metrology Fixturing Solutions, said in a statement.

The facility will “set the standard” for local manufacturing as a “highly energy-efficient, brightly lit, thoughtfully detailed workplace, full of the latest technology,” according to the statement. Advancements in indoor air management, power distribution, and a 150KW solar array are included in the build as part of Renishaw’s global commitment to environmental responsibility.

The company expects to expand its Norton Shores workforce along with its footprint. The new facility could potentially allow Renishaw to double its “entire operation” in the region, according to the statement.

Mark Bonser, senior project manager for Westwind, said the “exceptional” project was born of collaboration between the teams at Renishaw, Westwind, and the architecture and engineering firm Bergmann Associates Inc.

Renishaw Group has been in Grand Haven since its 2012 acquisition of R&R Sales LLC, a supplier of fixtures for the global measurement and inspection market.
